It’s 8:20am in the morning of the 6th of February, and I thought to share…
On my way to lunch with a couple of colleagues, I heard someone call behind me, “Isn’t that Miriam?” and proceeded to scream out, Miriam!
Stunned that someone would shout out my name like that, I turned immediately. Lo and behold, it was Mayowa whom I ghosted after our first date in 2019.
Why did he have to scream out my name like that when it’s not like I owed him any money? Quickly I fixed my face and smiled hard while extending my hands to greet him. Baba pushed in for a hug, and I dismissed my waiting colleagues amidst their smirks and smiles.
“Where have you been, this girl? That’s how you disappeared in an instant. Why did you even block my number?” was all Mayowa could blurt out as he was here for a doctor’s appointment with his siblings that was introduced to me.
Ignorance was clearly the face of the day as I denied remembering what actually happened lol. I had learned to keep a poker face, and it was indeed working. I apologized for not showing up for the second date and rambled on; he wasn’t even interested in the why but when we were supposed to see again and immediately asked to see my phone. I gave it to him, and he punched in his phone number and called himself immediately.
I hurriedly said goodbye as I explained it was my lunch break and promised to call or return his calls.
What do you think happened after? 🤣🤣
When I met Mayowa, everything happened so fast. From our connection to the date, there was an insane amount of chemistry between us, and I got scared of falling for this guy. Coming back from school amidst the whole final year clearance, I met two guys gisting at my bus stop, and immediately I alighted from the bus. He walked up to me and said he wanted to walk me home as I looked exhausted, and his friend burst out laughing.
Being exhausted, I just obliged, and he went on about himself in the most calm yet comprehensive manner. Thanked him for the walk, and we exchanged numbers.
We met the next day evening, had dinner, and talked like we were soulmates. We drove around Akoka for over 2 hours in a bid to buy more time because time had apparently stopped as we enjoyed each other’s company.
We finally decided to plan a second date and drove home. As I alighted, he planted a kiss that made me melt like ice cream, and Omo, I wished he didn’t stop. We said our goodbyes, and I walked into my supposed house, waited a bit for him to drive off, and walked to my real house.
Got home and decided that was the last he’d hear from me.
I ghosted him.
See you in the next one. ☝️
